Ace Your Job Interview: Essential Tips from 360 Agency Middle East

Updated: Aug 1

We would like to share some of our experience and advice on how to pass your next interview successfully with very simple but essential steps. Some may seem obvious but remember, there are no second chances to make a first impression!

Male Female Job Interview

What do Human Resources and Managers pay attention to once you step into the room:

A common opinion among employers: “Any person can be taught how to serve or make a cocktail, but it is not possible to teach anyone a personality!"

Rule No. 1 - Be on Time!

You are in another country, there is traffic, you need to find the right office or venue, and sometimes you need to register with security (have identification with you). It's better to be 30 minutes early than late. If you are late, it’s almost guaranteed to be a NO. However, do not enter too early; the rule is to enter with a nice smile between 5 – 10 minutes before your appointment. If you are too early, wait outside, go for a walk, compose yourself, and review the important points.

Rule No. 2 – Dress to Impress!

But… dress appropriately; it’s a job interview, not a party. For gentlemen, well-groomed and smart casual (blue or white shirt with dark trousers) paired with a big smile is ideal. For ladies, a classy dress or skirt and heels are generally a must, but this can vary depending on your style and the job. The key is to look fresh, smell nice, and wear a smile.

Rule No. 3 - Personality is Key!

Be positive, positive, and positive again. Avoid discussing negative experiences from your career. Be prepared for questions like "Why did you leave your last job?" and "Do you have a reference?" A person who speaks negatively during the interview will likely continue to do so later. Be smart, know the brands of the company, understand their food, relax, and show what a wonderful, chatty, and open person you are. Remember, you are in the hospitality business.

Rule No. 4 - Prepare Your Story!

Why did you choose the hospitality industry? What makes you successful in your job? Where do you see yourself in 2-5 years? These are just a few questions HR usually asks. Avoid saying "I need money" or "I need a visa." Instead, talk about how you enjoy interacting with people and take pride in providing the best service to clients. Think of an event where you made a difference to a client. What’s your favorite memory from previous work?

Rule No. 5 - Do Not Miss Your Interview!

We know Dubai nightlife is seductive, but the night before your interview, stay in. We've heard all the excuses: “I am sick,” “I had a family emergency,” “I couldn’t find the place.” We are all human, and things happen. If you really can’t make it, call at least 24 hours in advance and ask for a new date/time. A no-show without a reasonable early excuse is unacceptable and will not be rescheduled.

Be confident, show that you are a hard worker and that you want this job! Be prepared for the interview, do your research, dress up, and smile – and your interview will be successful.
